Breaking Down: What to Do When Your DJ Cancels

By October 28, 2022 No Comments

If you’re like most people, you have probably planned a big event at some point in your life. Maybe it’s a wedding, or a birthday party – whatever it is, there’s always a lot of planning that goes into making sure everything goes off without a hitch. One thing that can really throw a wrench in things is when your DJ cancels on you last minute.

Don’t worry though, we’re here to help!

In this blog post, we will go over what to do when your DJ cancels on you and how to make sure your event still goes off without a problem.

Keep Calm

First, it’s important to try and stay calm. This can be easier said than done, but it’s important to remember that getting worked up will only make the situation worse. Once you’ve taken a few deep breaths, the next thing you need to do is figure out why your DJ cancelled on you.

There could be a number of reasons, and it’s important to try and find out what happened. Was there a family emergency? Did they double book themselves? Once you know why they cancelled, it will be easier to figure out your next steps.

If possible, try and get in touch with your DJ as soon as possible. This way, you can find out if there is any way they can still make it to your event. If not, don’t worry – we’ll go over what you can do next.

Find a Replacement DJ

If your DJ is unable to make it to your event, the next best thing you can do is try and find a replacement. This may seem like a daunting task, but it’s important to remember that there are plenty of other DJs out there who would be more than happy to take their place.

The best way to find a replacement is to ask around for recommendations. Friends, family, and even your venue may have some good suggestions. Once you’ve found a few DJs to reach out to, it’s time to start making some calls.

When you’re talking to potential DJs, be sure to ask about their availability and if they have any experience with your type of event. It’s also a good idea to get a sense of their personality – after all, you want someone who will be able to get your guests up and dancing!

Once you’ve found a DJ that you’re happy with, be sure to get everything in writing. This includes their contact information, as well as the date, time, and location of your event. This will help avoid any confusion or mix-ups down the road.

Prepare a Backup Plan

Even if you’re able to find a replacement DJ, it’s always a good idea to have a backup plan in case something happens. This could mean having some music on hand that your guests can dance to, or hiring a band as well.

If you’re really struggling to find a replacement DJ, you can always ask your guests to bring their own music. This way, everyone can take turns playing their favorite songs. Just be sure to have a plan in place so that things run smoothly.

In-House Music

Your venue should be able to provide you with some music to help get things started. This is usually a good idea for when guests are arriving and during dinner.

If your venue doesn’t have any in-house music, you can always ask them to turn on the radio. Most venues will be happy to do this, and it’s a great way to fill any awkward silences.

Hiring a Band

If you really want to make sure your event is one to remember, you can always hire a band. This is usually a bit more expensive than hiring a DJ, but it’s definitely worth it if you can swing it.

Bands are great because they provide live entertainment that your guests will love. Plus, they can usually play a wider range of music.

When hiring a band, be sure to ask about their song list and if they have any experience playing at events like yours. You’ll also want to make sure that they are available on the date of your event.

Karaoke

One of the most popular backup plans is to have a karaoke machine on hand. This way, your guests can take turns singing their favorite songs.

Karaoke is great because it’s interactive and everyone can get involved. Plus, it’s a lot of fun!

When renting a karaoke machine, be sure to ask about their song selection. You’ll also want to make sure that the machine is easy to use.

Having a DJ cancel on you can be a stressful situation, but it’s important to remember that there are plenty of other options available. By following these tips, you can be sure that your event will still be a success!
